Find out whether your hearing aids and iPhone are compatible

The first thing to do is find out whether it’s even possible to connect your hearing aids to your iPhone. This largely depends on the kind of iPhone you have. Some of the older versions of the device don’t have the software updates and requirements installed on the to make the pairing possible.

You need to have an iPhone 5 at the earliest or any device that came out after that. You can also connect your hearing aids to other Apple devices such as iPod Touch 4s and later or the 4th generation of iPads and the ones that followed:

  • The first step you need to take when setting up the pairing between your hearing aid devices and iPhone is navigating to the settings app on your phone’s home screen.
  • You’ll then see an option at the top of the page that says Bluetooth. There’s a tab that you can toggle to turn it on and off. You need to have it turned on, so make sure that the tab is green.
  • You can then go to your hearing aid and open the battery doors. This makes it possible for you to carry out the connection in the smoothest possible way.
  • The next step is to head back to your iPhone and back to the settings app. Here, you should see an option on the page that’s called accessibility; tap that option.
  • Once you’ve done the above, simply choose the hearing devices option and you’ll then be on the page where you can make the connection.
  • You can then head back to your hearing aid device and close the battery doors that you had previously had open as the connection will have been established by now.
  • The word searching should now show on the screen where you tapped hearing devices. If the circle is spinning, this shows that it’s searching for your hearing aid. When the name of your device appears on the screen, tap it.
  • A message will pop on the screen to pair the devices, so simply choose pair.

Controlling Hearing Aid Devices Through the iPhone

Once your hearing aid devices are all set up on your iPhone, it’s possible to control your hearing aids from your iPhone or Apple device. You just have to go to the settings app and then navigate to the accessibility page. From there, you should see an option labeled hearing devices.

Once you’re on that page, you can do things such as adjusting the volume of your hearing aids, checking how much battery power remains on your devices and choosing presets, and unpairing the devices if you wish to. It’s all very intuitive and easy to do.

Troubleshooting Tips

All of the steps we’ve described above should work for you and there aren’t too many ways in which you can go wrong. Apple has designed the whole process to be very smooth and straightforward. If it doesn’t seem to be working for you, go back to the start and make sure that you definitely have a device that makes this parking possible and then follow the steps again.

You should also check to see if you can update the software of the phone. If a software update is available, download and install it. Also, make sure that your Bluetooth connectivity option is turned on as this makes the connection possible.
